Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2 September 2026
Upscaly is a photo and video upscaling tool that runs entirely on your own device. This policy explains, in plain terms, what that means for your data. It covers both Upscaly Studio for Windows and Upscaly for Android.
What Upscaly does with your files
Every image or video you upscale is processed locally, on your own CPU and GPU. It is never uploaded, transmitted, or sent to us or to any third party — not for processing, not for backup, not for any other reason. There is no server involved in upscaling at all.
Your original files are never modified. Upscaly writes each result as a new file and leaves the source exactly as it was.
What we collect
Nothing. Upscaly has no user accounts, no login, and no analytics, telemetry, or crash-reporting service built into it. We have no way to see what you upscale, how often you use the app, or who you are, because none of that information is ever sent anywhere.
Network activity
Upscaly makes network requests for two purposes only:
- Downloading AI models you choose to install. Model files are fetched from public repositories on GitHub. These are one-directional downloads — no image, file name, or personal information is included in the request.
- Checking for app updates (desktop only), which retrieves a small version file from the app's public GitHub releases.
As with any web request, the servers involved (GitHub's) may log standard technical information such as your IP address, in line with their own privacy policies. We do not operate those servers and do not receive that information.
Permissions
On Android, Upscaly requests only what it needs to function:
- Photos — Upscaly uses Android's system photo picker, which lets you choose individual photos without granting the app access to your whole photo library.
- Notifications — used to show upscaling progress and to tell you when a job has finished.
- Storage (older Android versions only) — used to save results to your gallery. Not required on modern Android versions.
- Internet — used only for the model downloads described above.
Where your results are stored
Upscaled files are saved to your own device — your gallery or chosen folder. They are not backed up, synced, or mirrored anywhere by Upscaly. Deleting them is entirely up to you, and once deleted they are gone; we hold no copy because we never had one.
Third-party models
The AI models Upscaly can download are produced and published by third parties, and are distributed under their own respective licenses. Downloading a model is a request to a public file host; it does not create an account or a relationship with the model's author.
Children's privacy
Upscaly is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect information from anyone, of any age — because it does not collect information at all.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new "last updated" date. Because Upscaly collects nothing, we don't anticipate changes that would affect your data.
